Corina Gardner

Senior Manager

Corina is the Senior Manager of the MDI Programme.

Corina has been managing the development of the MDI programme since June 2010, including the programme design, external consultations and relations, recruiting, events, and partnerships. Previously, Corina’s career has been focused on international development, working with USAID, State Department, and various consulting companies she has spent 8 years managing, implementing, and advising on foreign aid projects.

Corina has a BA from University of California, Berkeley and an MBA from Judge Business School, University of Cambridge, UK.

Tim Hatt

Senior Analyst

Tim is a Senior Analyst on the MDI Programme.

Tim joined the MDI Programme in October 2012. In this capacity, he has responsibility for research outputs produced and presented externally at conferences and public speaking engagements.

Prior to that, he spent four years working as a telecoms analyst in London, focusing on the European and US markets for both mobile and fixed line. His work was read by a range of clients from mobile operators to investment banks and hedge funds, and was quoted in several national news outlets such as the Financial Times, Daily Telegraph and BBC. He began his career in consumer research at TMN plc.

Tim obtained a 1st Class Bsc (Honours) degree in Biology and Commerce from Queen’s University, Ontario, Canada and is a Level 3 candidate in the CFA program.

Julia Burchell

Community Manager

Julia is the Community Manager for the MDI Programme

Julia joined the MDI Programme after three years specialising in mobile for development and gender. During this time she supported the launch and implementation of the GSMA mWomen Programme, leading the programme’s knowledge sharing initiatives and event project management. She brings a strong background in corporate communications to her work, having previously represented organisations across the telecommunications, utilities, accountancy and law industries.

Julia holds a first class honours degree in English from The University of Nottingham and an MA in Writing from Goldsmiths College, University of London.

Adam Wills


Adam is an Analyst on the MDI Programme.

Adam has been working on the MDI Programme since November 2012, researching and writing reports as part of MDI's research agenda, as well as spending time on the ground in developing markets to gather intelligence. Adam’s focus is increasingly on entrepreneurs creating mobile enabled products and services across the range of development verticals tracked by GSMA's Mobile for Development team. Prior to working at the GSMA, Adam spent time in an MP’s parliamentary office focusing on international development and environmental policy areas.

Adam has a first class BSc and MPhil in Mathematics and Philosophy from the University of Warwick.

Julian Morrison


Julian is the Director of Products and Innovation for GSMA Intelligence.

Julian's role is to oversee the execution of research strategy across GSMA Intelligence as well as developing new focus areas for the research unit. Before joining GSMA he led the European Telecoms and Media business unit at Pyramid Research, where he had full P&L responsibility and managed a team of 6 analysts. Prior to that Julian worked at the leading UK private equity firm 3i for 5 years, first as an analyst and then as a research and origination manager. Julian has also worked as a market analyst at Vartec Telecom and started his career at AT&T.

Julian has a BA in German and Italian from University College London and speaks five languages.

Its policies, operations, and funding decisions are determined by its own Foundation Board of Directors and President and CEO.

DFID funding will enable an expansion of the platform to include more data on the overall mobile sector, help ensure open access and specifically support a range of activities including gathering and hosting sources of data related to energy and water, research and products related to mobile activities in water, energy, and financial inclusion. MDI is supported by UK aid from the UK Government, however the views expressed do not necessarily reflect the UK Government’s official policies
